Foster

Many of the dogs we rescue were abused and neglected. They spent most—if not all—of their lives without having basic needs met.

​Thes pups need a lot of TLC. We cannot rescue dogs only to place them in a clean cage and expect them to succeed in life or a family. A HavaHeart Rescue foster family is loving, compassionate, and patient. And they make all the difference in the lives of our rescues.

Our rescue pups need help learning how to be a member of the family. They need to learn that not all humans want to hurt them. They need to learn how to play, walk on a leash, and interact with people and other pets.

A loving foster home is the first and most important step on the journey to rehabilitation. Our foster families experience the joy and satisfaction of a job well done as they witness the dog in their care flourish into a confident and healthy pet. The quicker we can get a rescue into a foster home, the sooner they start to forget their past and learn how to become a socialized pet.

Foster families meet the same requirements as any adoptive family. To be considered, you must . . .

• Have the time, attention, and patience to give to a rescue dog.
• Include the dog in family activities (treat the dog as if it was their dog).
• Allow the dog to live as a house dog with as much human companionship and one-on-one time as possible. (Outside living conditions will NOT be considered.)
• Allow the dog to live unchained.
• Provide adequate food and water and daily exercise.
• Provide clean, dry shelter.
• Ensure the dog wears collar and ID tags at all times.
• Obey all applicable laws governing control and custody of animals.
• Love, cuddle, play with, bathe, brush, and teach basic commands to the dog.
• **If you have other dogs in the home, they must be spayed or neutered and up to date on all vet care (shots and preventatives).
